Meet the Owner
Hi there! My name is Hannah Mayderry. I am a licensed mental health counselor and the owner of Philosophie Therapy. Being a therapist and private practice owner is a dream come true for me. I get to wake up every day and have meaningful conversations with incredible people.
Growing up, I was often told I was “too sensitive.” I used to consider this to be a weakness, but now I know it is my greatest strength. I have the honor of helping people learn about themselves, heal from emotional pain, and find the confidence to go after what they want in life.
I believe therapy should feel supportive and safe. I want my clients to be able to feel free to be themselves and express their emotions without judgment. I am an LGBTQ+ friendly therapist and have the honor of working with people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy can be broken down into three stages:
1. Getting to Know You: Therapy starts with me working to create a safe space for you to share what brought you to therapy. We will talk about your emotions, mental health struggles, and any current stressful situations you're dealing with. Don't worry if you're not sure where to begin. I will be there to help guide the conversation and make sure you feel comfortable.
2. Setting Goals: Once we have a clear picture of what's happening in your life, we'll work together to set goals. Do you want to feel less anxious or depressed? If you're coming for couples counseling, do you wish to improve communication in your relationship? Whatever your goals may be, we will talk about them and write them down to make sure we are working towards them. Of course, you are always welcome to change and adjust them as we go.
3. Working Towards Your Goals: With our goals in mind, I will ask lots of questions to continue to learn about your story, as well as anything you may be struggling with in the present. Sometimes we find out that there are old habits that aren't serving you anymore or we find that you may need some time to heal from past experiences. I will be there to support you and teach you coping skills along the way.
My Credentials
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. I earned a BA (Bachelor of Arts) degree in Psychology and Cultural Anthropology while living in Southern California. I then moved home to Florida to earn an ME.d. (Master of Arts in Education) as well as an Ed.S. (Education Specialist) degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida.
During the completion of my education, I had the opportunity to work within a variety of mental health settings, including local schools, inpatient treatment centers, and non-profit organizations, before transitioning into private practice.
All of these experiences, alongside my personal life journey inspired me to create my own practice, Philosophie Therapy.
If You're Interested...
When I'm not in session, I invest in the people and things that bring me joy. Apart from mental health, traveling is one of my greatest passions. I hope to be able to see as much of the world as possible in my lifetime. I have had the opportunity to travel to 12 countries so far and hope to experience many more.
In my day-to-day free time, I love spending quality time with my friends, family, and my dog, Juniper. I am obsessed with celebrating (and decorating for) holidays, birthdays, and any other special event life has to offer. In a world filled with hardship, I take any opportunity I can to maximize the joy in moments worth celebrating.
